It’s funny isn’t it when you think of it? Our whole body is controlled by merely 3 pounds of grey matter. Not only our body but our whole damn world. Perceptions, the creation of realities.
Our brains are one of the most important parts of our whole body, of which if something breaks down, our life could be turned upside down. Breaking down does not only refer to physical breakdown but also inclusive of mental manifestations.
The famous President Roosevelt once said, “Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.”
I’ve had many people, friends, and family, who have been asking, “how can you travel to all these faraway foreign countries all by yourself? Aren’t you scared?” My mother also bears the grunts of being questioned on her parenting skill, “how can you let your only daughter wander alone?”
These questions rise out of concern. For my safety, above everything else, which is why I don’t go and say “mind your own business”. These people actually care. They see me walking out the door, out into the other parts of the world they see from the news on the television.
Now we all know what kind of news are being broadcasted these days. Sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns? Nah. Bombs, murders, war. Suddenly, the world looks way more menacing than ever. Everyone is suspicious. Everyone could be evil.
It never hurts to practice precautions but when you start to think that the world is a dangerous place you shouldn’t explore, then that’s when the problem starts. The world has given me so much.
Personal growth. I wouldn’t have been able to think like I am today if it’s not for what I’ve learnt through my journey OUTSIDE my comfort zone.
“Aren’t you afraid?”, they asked.
What’s there to be afraid of? I can come up with a billion reasons why I should never leave my lovely little hometown but I only need one reason to step out.
Cogito Ergo Sum.
You are what you think.
If you think of all the terrifying things out there, then you’ll always be afraid. If you’re always afraid, then you’re missing out on all the beautiful things you could have felt or seen. If you always focus on the hideous thoughts, you’ll miss out on the rainbows and the sunshine.
“Why do you always go out and explore so far away?”
Everything you want is on the other side of fear.
