Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Film Review

I honestly thought the previous movie was kind of meh and I went in with low expectations but was actually pleasantly surprised by what this film has to offer.

Plot-wise it starts off slow but picks up about…a third of the way in? After that, the pacing is fairly good as the characters find themselves in volatile and tense situation after situation. There are certain parts where they kind of jump to the next scene a bit suddenly and it feels slightly disjointed though. Almost like there’s supposed to be a minor connecting scene that was left somewhere on the editing room floor. The plot this time also feels more contained and streamlined due to the settings which I won’t go into detail. It felt like… A competent action thriller, with dinosaurs and not exactly a true blue Jurassic Park movie. Not necessarily a bad thing but that was what I felt. There are still a handful of epic “Jurassic” moments and nods here and there but… They just feel like fan service.

Character-wise, you’re not going to find anything too deep here but I will say this film is actually surprisingly funny due to certain dialogue and the characters themselves and I quite enjoyed the humor although some might say it felt a bit too… Marvel? Serious action spliced with witty comedy.

The action and thriller scenes are surprisingly good and there were quite a few moments where I was genuinely tensed up. However, there are quite a few moments that felt a bit manufactured as they happened due to some of the characters doing some pretty stupid things and It was just a bit much, slightly taking me out of the immersion.

I’m not sure if they rebooted it with “Jurassic world” with the ending of this film in mine but I would say that I am genuinely interested now in the direction that they’re going in.

What's good
More contained story makes the film work better as an action/thriller but it does lack the epicness of the jurassic name
Action/Thriller scenes are very thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seats
Surprisingly funny although some might complain of it being too "Marvel"
What's bad
Not much character development for main characters, focuses more on new characters
Some of the action/thriller scenes manufactured by characters making stupid/illogical decisions
Pretty Good!
A good sequel to the original with more action and tense scenes!
Fallen World has a very high cliff to overcome its predecessor success, and it may not be able to reach it. With that said, it does serve as a good sequel to the film that introduces more new characters as well as the possibility of creating better storylines for the potentially upcoming sequels.
