(actually maybe yeah, I love this intense summary – Deadpool)
Deadpool 2…is funny as hell. And I actually want to rewatch it more than infinity war simply because there’s just so much more going on that one viewing didn’t feel enough?
Story-wise I won’t really say anything because come on? Who the hell watches Deadpool for the story. Just go watch it. I will say that it was a lot more emotional than I thought it would be and the pacing does drag in the middle. I would say that I like this film better as the pacing is better and it’s just generally being funny more of the time.
Character-wise, while the first film was really more of a solo act, this film widens the “Deadpool family” by letting other characters have more to do too like Cable, Colussus, Fire fist, Domino, Dopinder etc. And of course, he cracks jokes at their expense too. I will say that we don’t delve too deep into any of the characters but come on, this is a Deadpool film you don’t really expect deep character growth, not that there isn’t any at all.
Action scenes are pretty tight too and it’s not just Deadpool but the whole cast in general who all have a chance to shine. The jokes, similar to the first, just come at you so fast and you really have to be paying attention to get all of them, not to mention having up to date knowledge about pop culture in general.
Overall, I like it better than the first and it’s a damn good comedy that left me laughing throughout. Go watch it especially if you’re a fan. But I mean if you were a fan you were going to watch it anyway right? However, I will say that…I feel they did not go far enough as a sequel and it just felt more like an extension of the first movie rather than a true sequel. I do not know quite how to explain this point though…perhaps I just expected more from the story but it was kind of meh for me despite being a damn good comedy…but perhaps this is just how a Deadpool film works best? Being very grounded and comedic.
